At its flagship facility in Ningde, the company operates a largely automated production line capable of producing up to 60 gigawatt-hours of lithium-ion batteries annually, a volume described as sufficient to power roughly 1 million Model Ys for Tesla ( NASDAQ:TSLA ). According to SNE Research, more than one in three electric vehicles produced this year used CATL batteries, including models from BMW, Ford ( NYSE:F ), Honda ( NYSE:HMC ), Mercedes and Tesla, as well as Chinese brands such as Xiaomi ( XIACY ). This scale has translated into financial and market influence, highlighted by CATL's $5.3 billion Hong Kong share sale in May and founder Yuqun Robin Zeng's estimated $58.3 billion net worth on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
