Charging History: How Tesla Electrified the Automotive Industry view transcript 2003 Martin Ederhard and Marc Tarpenning conceived and founded Tesla. Elon Musk led the Series A funding in 2004, joining the board of directors as its chairman as well as in operational roles. 2008 The Tesla Roadster was the first production automobile to use lithium-ion battery cells. 2010 Tesla launched its IPO on NASDAQ. The IPO raised US&226 million. 2016 Tesla agreed to acquire SolarCity for $2.6 billion in stock. Solar City was then the largest installer of rooftop solar systems in the United States. The Model 3 was unveiled. 2017 Due to concern about Tesla's plans for execution and competitive risk, Tesla's stock-market value declined by more than &12 billion due to execution concerns. August 7, 2018 CEO Elon Musk tweeted: "Am considering taking Tesla private at $420. Funding secured." The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission fined Musk and Tesla $20M each to reimburse investors whom were harmed
