At least, that was the idea when Tesla CEO Elon Musk jumped into the conversation with a blunt warning that sounded like the early stages of another 2008. "Commercial real estate is melting down fast. Home values next," Musk said in a post on X in 2023, as rising interest rates and economic uncertainty weighed on buyers and investors. What Happened After The Warning The expected drop in housing never showed up. Prices softened briefly in 2023, then stalled. By 2024 and into 2025 , the market slowed to a crawl instead of sliding. Fewer homes were listed, fewer deals closed, and both buyers and sellers hesitated at the same time.
