Tesla shocked just about everybody by laying off the entire team responsible for its Superchargers, considered one of Tesla's greatest successes and top assets. According to Musk, they will greatly slow expansion, and focus on reliability. Reports suggest leases for some new charging stations are already cancelled. This move has left most Tesla analysts baffled. Tesla just underwent two major efforts on their charging network. After years of plug wars, Tesla convinced all major automakers to switch to Tesla's NACS plug and sign deals allowing their drivers to use Tesla's superchargers, which were universally accepted as the best network. They also started applying for the NEVI grants authorized in recent federal bills which provide billions in subsidies to install new charging stations, though under some rather silly bureaucratic rules that Tesla wasn't fond of.
