Elon Musk took the stage at Austin's historic Seaholm Power Plant on Saturday to unveil what he called “Terafab” – a huge semiconductor manufacturing plant that, if pulled off, would be the largest chip production facility ever built. Beams of light shot into the Austin sky as Musk described the project to an audience of the Lone Star State's tapped-in leaders, which included Texas Gov. Greg Abbott. The announcement capped off a week of speculation after Tesla first teased the ambitious and complex project on X, describing it simply as “the next step towards becoming a galactic civilization.” “One Hell of a Building”: Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI Team Up to Create Terafab According to Tesla's official announcement, the proposed Terafab manufacturing facility would aim to produce one terawatt per year of AI computing capacity – all under one, very big, roof.
