analyst estimates as the company's prepared foods segment delivered strong performance and chicken operations continued to gain market share. The food processing giant posted adjusted earnings per share of $0.97, exceeding the analyst consensus of $0.93. Revenue reached $14.31 billion, up 5.1% YoY and above the $14 billion analysts had expected. Shares rose 1% following the announcement. "Our first quarter results reflect solid execution across our portfolio," said Donnie King, President & CEO of Tyson Foods . "Prepared Foods delivered top and bottom-line growth while Chicken reported its fifth consecutive quarter of year-over-year volume gains." The company's prepared foods segment, which includes brands like Jimmy Dean and Hillshire Farm, saw sales increase 7.9% YoY to $2.67 billion, with operating income of $322 million.
