Federal antitrust investigations appear to be ramping up, according to reporting from The Wall Street Journal, with the U.S. Department of Justice pursuing investigations and potentially even legal action against beef and egg companies. According to an article in The Wall Street Journal , the Justice Department's antitrust division is actively investigating whether major beef packers engaged in criminal anticompetitive behavior. The four companies most often looked at in these matters are the biggest players: Tyson Foods, Cargill, JBS, and National Beef The probe follows calls from President Donald Trump last fall to examine the industry, after he accused beef companies of manipulating cattle prices paid to ranchers while also increasing costs for consumers.
