Tyson Foods Inc. said Wednesday that it is doubling the "thank you bonuses" it's paying to its 116,000 frontline workers in the U.S. to $120 million, with the first bonus installment of $500 scheduled to be paid in early May. The second $500 bonus will be paid in July. In early April, the meat producer said it would pay out $60 million in bonuses. Tyson's announcement comes after President Trump issued an executive order late Tuesday for meat processing plant to remain open during the COVID-19 pandemic, as many plants had closed under pressure from local authorities and workers because of health concerns. Tyson said it was also increasing short-term disability coverage to 90% of normal pay through June 30. The company said it has already been checking worker temperatures, but introduced other measures such as screening for additional symptoms, designating monitors at each facility to enforce social distancing and requiring the use of company-provided surgical-style face coverings.
