The food giant announced plans in late November to shut down its facility in Lexington, Nebraska, and scale back operations to a single shift at its Amarillo, Texas, plant. This decision was made to better align the company's processing power with a domestic cattle herd that had shrunk to its lowest level in 75 years. While the adjustments were expected to reduce about 5% of the total U.S. beef slaughter capacity, investors viewed the move as a way to improve both capacity and profit margins.
