Nifty, Sensex track Asian peers higher on hopes of pandemic nearing peak BENGALURU (Reuters) - Indian shares rose on Thursday, in line with broader Asian markets that gained on hopes that the coronavirus pandemic was nearing its peak globally and governments would roll out more stimulus measures. The Nifty rose 2.41% to 8,959.65 by 0345 GMT and the benchmark Sensex gained 2.33% to 30,590.27. MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was up 0.6%, following a strong Wall Street finish on optimistic statements from U.S. President Donald Trump. Trump said he would like to reopen the U.S. economy with a “big bang” if the deaths from the pandemic were on a downward slope, while New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said the state’s efforts were helping control the virus in one of the biggest hot spots in the country. “We are following global stocks,” said Deepak Jasani, head of research, HDFC Securities in Mumbai, adding that domestic investors were still closely monitoring the si
