Boom Supersonic While Boom Supersonic continues to promise delivery of its Overture aircraft, aviation industry leaders share disparate views on whether that will ever occur. In recent weeks, United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby declared “I think it's 50/50 on whether Boom gets flying or not,” while veteran analyst Richard Aboulafia said it will never happen. Boom plans to manufacture its Overture aircraft at a plant at Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, North Carolina. Overture could fly as early as the current decade, Boom says. Kirby spoke last week with aviation writer David Slotnik, while Aboulafia, a managing director of Aerodynamic Advisory, spoke in February at the annual Pacific Northwest Aerospace Alliance conference in Seattle. There, Aboulafia “said he would just write off Boom,” according to Leeham News .
