Autonomous should no longer be in the domain of R&D for automakers, it should be the basis of their upcoming core product offerings: mobility services.Five years ago, I made acall to actionfor the world’s best engineers to join the mission to render human drivers obsolete. Since then, hundreds of thousands of the world’s brightest minds have applied their minds and hearts towards making autonomous vehicles a reality. That reality has taken longer than we had originally hoped. Much longer.Cruise originally expected to launch its robotaxi fleet in 2019, but announced last July thatit wouldn’t be launching its servicethat year and did not provide a timeline. Waymo’s 2018 expected robotaxi launch also showed signs of delaysearlier that year, It’sWaymo Oneservice continues to be very limited.
