It's been almost an entire year since we last got to play the competitive first-person shooter, and extended periods of silence and few updates have made the community nervous. The stress test is meant to do exactly what it says: “Melt the servers” as producer Mark Rubin put it . “I know it's been a long road to get back to this point with a lot of frustration on the way but this gets us even closer to going Live!” XDefiant is a first-person shooter that's very much in the tradition of Call Of Duty— fast-paced, twitch shooters with a mil-sim veneer—though it promises lots of things gamers have been asking for, including ping-based matchmaking instead of skill-based matchmaking, or SBMM. As of yet, Ubisoft has not announced an actual release date, but a stress test like this should serve to showcase the game's maps and any changes to gameplay since the last play test, which left me with a lot of mixed feelings about the game.
