It's the largest military spending proposal in U.S. history, up 42% over this 2026. Specifically, the Pentagon requests $55 billion for the Defense Autonomous Warfare Group (DAWG), up from $225.9 million this year (a 240x jump), tucked inside the broader $102.5 billion “next-generation technology and autonomy” bucket in the reconciliation package. Jules Hurst, the Pentagon's acting comptroller, told reporters DAWG is a “pathfinder” and a “multi-year investment” for the purpose of “evaluating, purchasing or modifying drone systems that are already in use.” All this is good news if you're a company that deals with autonomous, semi-autonomous, and unmanned platforms using AI.
