UnitedHealth also lifted its full-year profit forecast after high healthcare costs dragged earnings short of estimates several times in the last year. UnitedHealth Group ( UNH ) shares jumped 8% in early trading after the company reported better-than-expected first-quarter results. UnitedHealth said it earned an adjusted $7.23 per share on $111.7 billion in revenue, above the $6.53 and $109.8 billion that analysts had forecast, according to Visible Alpha estimates. The company also lifted its full-year outlook, projecting adjusted earnings per share above $18.25, up from the target of at least $17.75 that UnitedHealth laid out in its fourth-quarter results.
