Case in point: Amazon announced last week that it will be adding a 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge to the fees it collects third-party sellers that use the company's fulfillment services. The charge will start being levied on April 17, according to CNBC. “Elevated costs in fulfillment and logistics have increased the cost of operating across the industry,” Amazon said in a note that was sent to sellers. “We have absorbed these increased costs so far. However, similar to other major carriers, when costs remain elevated, we implement temporary surcharges on our fulfillment fees to recover a portion of the actual cost increases we are experiencing.” “We remain committed to our selling partners' success and to maintaining broad selection and low prices for customers,” Amazon spokesperson Ashley Vanicek said in a statement, adding that the increase was “meaningfully lower” than the charges from other delivery services.
