The index has logged its 10th intraday record high in the past 11 sessions and is up 34% over the past month. But because the Dow transports are price-weighted , Avis's near-vertical move is punching far above its economic weight — even though the company just posted a nearly $1 billion annual loss. At roughly $700 a share, it is now the highest-priced stock in the index, and according to Yahoo Finance calculations, Avis accounts for about 66% of the transports' gain in this monthlong run.
