While the rest of the world was obsessing about coronavirus last week, a night truck convoy drove through a picturesque French town. The oversize trucks carried the giant wings and fuselage of one of the largest airliners ever built, the Airbus A380. For fifteen years, the convoys have run across the roads and rivers of France. This was one of the last full convoys for the 555-passenger, double-deck A380. Nonetheless, on the night of February 24, the entire population of the town of Lévignac turned out, as it has for dozens of A380 convoys for more than 10 years. The road (paid for by Airbus and the French government) was closed to other traffic so the slow-moving vehicles could take their massive load to the Airbus assembly Despite the pageant, the short-lived production life of the A380, spanning less than 15 years, is coming to an end.
