Whether you say “Okay Google” or “Alexa” (depending on which smart speaker you have) – voice search technology is changing our world. In a new report, GlobalWebIndex found that 27 percent of the global online population is using voice search on mobile. They also discovered nearly a third of internet users state they are interested in purchasing a voice-controlled smart assistant. Smart speakers are in constant listen-mode (which does present some privacy concerns – GlobalWebIndex addresses this in their report) and a “wake word” is how you get them to pay attention. Okay Google, or Hey Google, is the key phrase that initiates the voice assistant on the Google Home. Amazon has the industry-leading smart speaker – the Amazon Echo (with several versions now). The Echo has several “wake” words: Alexa, Echo, or Computer (as a nod to all the Star Trek fans out there). Apple has one, too, of course, called the Home Pod. Disclosure: I review many products
