Solid fourth-quarter earnings get topped off by impressive phase 2 data for the biotech's next-generation cystic fibrosis drugs. Vertex Pharmaceuticals ( NASDAQ:VRTX ) rounded out 2017 on a high note with fourth-quarter sales of its cystic fibrosis franchise up 37% year over year, besting the 29% increase when looking at the entire year. And on the pipeline front, the company announced impressive phase 2 data for its next-generation triple combinations with plans to bring two combinations into phase 3 development, checking off one of the items on its 2018 to-do list .
