Dow logs more than 400-point loss as stocks left reeling after Fed hike U.S. stocks ended sharply lower Thursday as key equity benchmarks struggled to gain traction after the Federal Reserve's hiking plans helped dampen investor optimism. The S&P 500 SPX, -1.58% finished lower by 1.6% to around 2,467, based on preliminary numbers. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, -1.99% shed 464 points, or 2%, to end around 22,860. The Nasdaq Composite Index COMP, -1.63% slipped 1.6% to 6,528. All three stock indexes carved out fresh 52-week closing lows. With earnings season a few weeks away, investors are preoccupied by the Fed's hiking intentions and plans to keep the central bank's balance-sheet reduction on "autopilot." The Fed hiked the federal-funds rate by 25 basis points to a range of 2.25% to 2.5% on Wednesday, marking its fourth interest-rate increase of the year.
