Fred’s Bankruptcy Could Boost CVS, Walgreens Pharmacies News Fred’s Inc. will sell its remaining pharmacy assets as part of its bankruptcy filing could benefit drugstore giants CVS Health and Walgreens Boots Alliance. Fred’s Monday announced the it has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and will soon begin liquidating assets and selling off its pharmacy assets and related operations. “The Company expects to continue fulfilling pharmacy prescriptions at most of its pharmacy locations, while it continues to pursue the sale of its pharmacies as part of the court supervised proceedings,” Fred’s Inc. said in a statement Monday. Fred’s didn’t disclose how many pharmacies the company has remaining but drugstore bankruptcies in the past have involved selling stores as well as prescription files. The company said it will begin an “an orderly wind-down of its operations, and has commenced liquidation sales at all retail locations,” which will close over the next 60 days, Fred’s said. “D
