Financial stocks turned mostly lower Tuesday, with shares of J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. and Wells Fargo & Co. reversing course, as earnings misses and a downbeat economic outlook from the International Monetary Fund damped optimism that the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic may have passed. J.P. Morgan Chase's stock had run up as much as 3.9% out of the gate, despite missing profit and revenue expectations, while beating net interest income forecasts, but pulled a U-turn to be down 3.9% in midday trading. Wells Fargo's stock was up as much as 3.5% but was last down 4.0%, after the bank also missed profit and revenue views while beating NII expectations. The SPDR Financial Select Sector ETF was down 0.4%, to be the only ETF tracking the 11 key S&P 500 sectors that was losing ground, as the S&P 500 hiked up 2.4%.
