In Jacksonville, gas prices began the week at $3.942 and dropped slightly on Tuesday to $3.923, but still higher compared to last week's average of $3.879. As customers track gas prices , looking back makes the increase even more striking. Just one month ago, the average price for a regular gallon of gas in Jacksonville was $2.831 — at a time when diesel, at $3.561, was still cheaper than today's regular gas. Nationally, prices also ticked upward , rising from $3.956 on Monday to $3.977 on Tuesday, March 24, according to AAA.
