Every month, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel checks in on popular area stores to track grocery prices over time. In September, the Journal Sentinel collected the price of a list of groceries at three Milwaukee-area stores: Pick ‘n Save at 1100 E. Garfield Ave. in Milwaukee; Walmart at 4140 W. Greenfield Ave. in West Milwaukee; and Meijer, 11111 W. Burleigh St. in Wauwatosa. On March 3, we returned to these locations to see how prices have changed in six months. Though the U.S. Department of Agriculture expects grocery prices to rise 2.5% nationwide in 2026, the price of our basket has largely stayed the same or decreased between September 2025 and March 2026.
