The news comes as the nation's largest retailer continues reshaping its logistics network to reflect changing consumer shopping habits. The company notified Illinois officials on March 27 that it will shut down a distribution facility in Matteson, according to a filing with the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act. The closure is expected to affect 111 employees, with layoffs scheduled to take effect May 29. Walmart said the decision is part of a broader restructuring effort that began last year as it works to streamline operations and invest more heavily in automation and faster digital fulfillment.
