Thousands are without power in Colorado as areas of the state face high winds and red flag warnings. On Thursday, Dec. 18, the eastern part of Colorado could see winds of 50 to 65 mph throughout the day, and up to 85 mph in the Front Range Mountains and foothills later at night, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder. Conditions could also make it easier for fires to spread, and the area will be under a red flag warning until 5 p.m. local time. Around 115,882 customers are also without power due to the winds that occurred on Wednesday night, Dec. 17, according to USA TODAY's Power Outage Tracker Xcel Energy estimates that it could take hours to days to restore the power, according to the Boulder Office of Disaster Management . Schools in the Boulder Valley District will be closed on Dec. 18 due to power outages.
