Related news Oil prices finished higher after a seesaw session Wednesday despite a surprise jump in U.S. crude inventories and spiking coronavirus cases. Oil stockpiles increased by 5.7 million barrels last week, and gasoline supplies fell by 4.8 million barrels, the Energy Information Administration said. Analysts polled by S&P Global Platts see a 3.7 million-barrel decline in crude inventories last week and a 1.2 million-barrel drop in gasoline supplies. Late Tuesday, the American Petroleum Institute, an industry group, reported a 2 million-barrel increase in crude supplies and a 1.8 million-barrel drop in gasoline supplies. U.S. crude production was flat at 11 million barrels per day, EIA reported. "Oil prices are edging higher but continue to face significant resistance around the same peaks that it has over the last month," Craig Erlam, Oanda senior market analyst, wrote ahead of the EIA data release.
