O'Neill, who currently serves as CEO of Woodside Energy, will replace Murray Auchincloss, who will step down as CEO and board director on December 18. Carol Howle, executive vice president of supply, trading and shipping at BP , will serve as interim CEO until O'Neill takes over. Auchincloss will remain with the company in an advisory role through December 2026. Since 2021, O'Neill has led Woodside Energy , guiding it to become the largest energy company listed on the Australian Securities Exchange. During her tenure, she managed Woodside's acquisition of BHP Petroleum International. Before joining Woodside in 2018, she spent 23 years at ExxonMobil in various technical, operational and leadership positions. BP Chair Albert Manifold stated, "Her proven track record of driving transformation, growth, and disciplined capital allocation makes her the right leader for bp."
