Researchers Found An Underground Network Of Illicit And Abusive Content On Giphy If you've shared a GIF online, you have probably interacted with Giphy L1ght Similar to Twitter, hashtags are how you find things on Giphy. They serve to organize all of the images uploaded by users. L1ght analyzed a series of hashtags using its algorithms that are designed to uncover toxic and potentially dangerous content. According to the company, it was able to find an apparently organized effort to host a "secret stash" of disturbing GIFs that display intimated acts of child abuse, self-harm, body mutilation and other upsetting and harmful images. L1ght said that by using search engines like Bing Images, DuckDuckGo and Yandex, it was able to find the abusive content hidden behind discrete hashtags.
