Close to 500 TSA agents have quit during the current shutdown, Ha Nguyen McNeill, the acting chief of the TSA, told lawmakers in a March 25 congressional hearing. In addition to those who have quit, more agents are calling out of work after not being paid for nearly 40 days since the start of the shutdown. “This has led to the highest wait times in TSA history,” McNeill said, citing some wait times greater than four and a half hours. To get around the long lines, some passengers are turning to paid programs like TSA PreCheck and CLEAR+. CLEAR, in particular, has grown increasingly popular in recent weeks.
