or not they fell for it, and to find out what kinds of scams other consumers have reported. Phony job offers are high on the list of scams targeting local consumers. The FTC says job scams nearly tripled between 2020 and 2024, with losses growing from $90 million to $501 million. Most scams aren't reported, so the actual numbers are certainly much higher. In October 2025, PassWordManager.com surveyed 1,254 U.S. adults nationwide who searched for a job in 2025 to learn about their experience. It found that 1in 4 fell for a hiring scam and many more encountered at least one fake job posting or recruiter during their job search. The survey also found that: The companies most often impersonated in fake job postings were Amazon, Google, FedEx, UPS, Walmart, Apple, Facebook, Netflix, Target and CVS. The most common places where fake listings occurred were Indeed, LinkedIn, Facebook, ZipRecruiter, Instagram and TikTok. Half of the victims had personal data or money stolen. 25 per
