The job market has been stuck in a low-hire, low-fire state, partly due to economic uncertainty, such as businesses figuring out how tariffs affect them . It's really up to employers to break the freeze — and how they do so could be either beneficial or disastrous for job seekers. Sahm sees the job market going in one of two directions in 2026.
