Twenty-eight percent of Gen Z workers have enlisted a parent's help in negotiating pay or benefits. That includes 10% who let a parent negotiate directly with their employer. The stakes are enormous, yet 55% of U.S. workers don't negotiate at all. Almost three in 10 Gen Z workers have brought a parent into their first salary negotiation—one of the most consequential financial conversations in a career. That's the finding of a recent Zety survey of 1,001 Gen Z employees, which also shows that young adults ask parents for help with resume edits (44%) and employer outreach (21%). Among those seeking parental help with salary negotiations , 18% received advice, while 10% had a parent speak directly with the employer.
