"It's coming. The hardware is still very much coming," OpenAI CFO Sarah Friar exclusively told Yahoo Finance. OpenAI has secured the 11th annual Yahoo Finance Company of the Year award. OpenAI has been around for 10 years and started out as a research lab for AI initiatives. Its popular AI ChatGPT service is three years young. Since its rollout in November 2022 , ChatGPT has evolved from something of a novelty into a tool consumers turn to daily. Its entry into hardware, however, still remains a bit mysterious. Friar, whose résumé includes C-suite positions at Nextdoor ( NXDR ) and Square (now known as Block ( XYZ )), wasn't exactly tight-lipped about the hardware but shared that, for now, it's best to sit tight. There are "no changes right now," she said. "No announcements to be made." At Square, she learned, "you can turn out software in days, weeks, months."
