Trader Joe's fried rice recall expands to other frozen products [USA TODAY]

A previously announced recall of Trader Joe's chicken fried rice has expanded to include additional frozen meals sold nationwide. The Reno-Sparks area has three Trader Joe's stores where some of the affected products may have been sold. The expanded recall was announced by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service, which said the products were made by Ajinomoto Foods North America , an Oregon-based manufacturer. The company reported customer complaints that prompted a deeper investigation. According to the Food Safety and Inspection Service, the issue may be tied to a vegetable ingredient used in the products — specifically carrots — that could contain fragments of glass. "Upon further investigation, the establishment determined that a vegetable source ingredient, specifically carrots, was the likely source of the glass contamination, which also impacted the additional products subject to this expanded recall," the FSIS said.
