Advanced Micro Devices ( AMD Financials ) is in talks to provide 10,000 AI accelerators to the South Korean firm Upstage. This shows that there is a growing need for alternatives to Nvidia in the global AI infrastructure market.Sung Kim, the CEO of Upstage, revealed that AMD CEO Lisa Su and he talked about the possible purchase during a meeting in Seoul not long ago. The processors being looked at include AMD's newest MI355 accelerators, which are built for AI applications that need a lot of power.The talks come at a time when South Korea is working hard to improve its own AI skills through a government-sponsored competition to create national foundation models. Every six months, the program's participants are reviewed, and the best ones get more computer resources.Upstage now uses Nvidia hardware, but it wants to get supplies from other places as well. The move is part of a larger trend in the sector, as businesses are trying to rely less on one vendor because of a shortage of GPUs
