South Korea's AI ambitions are starting to take a more strategic turn, with Upstage now exploring a sizable shift in its chip sourcing strategy. The Korean startup is in discussions with Advanced Micro Devices ( NASDAQ:AMD ) for a potential purchase of 10,000 MI355 AI accelerators, following a recent meeting between Chief Executive Officer Sung Kim and AMD CEO Lisa Su in Seoul. Kim noted that while Korea already has a significant base of Nvidia ( NASDAQ:NVDA ) chips, the company is looking to diversify into alternative suppliers such as AMD, a move that could broaden its compute stack as demand for large-scale AI infrastructure continues to build.
