Shares of Amazon.com Inc. surged 3.9% in morning trading Tuesday, to blow past their previous record highs, in the wake of the e-commerce and cloud giant's announcement that it was hiring an additional 75,000 employees to meet an increase in demand. The Monday announcement of new jobs was in addition to the 100,000 new employees it already hired in the past month. The stock was trading at about $2,252, and had reached an all-time intraday high of $2,264.83 earlier in the session. The previous intraday record was $2,185.95 on Feb. 11 and the previous record close was $2,170.22 on Feb. 19. The stock has now gained 34.3% since closing at a 1-year low of $1,676.61 on March 12.
