In total, 62 U.S. locations and 30 international stores were shuttered by the chain. Bath & Body Works still has roughly 1,900 stores worldwide and a thriving online presence, which recently expanded to offer products on Amazon. The company says the closures were based on the changing habits of consumers. According to The Independent, officials with the company said foot traffic, lease costs and the continued growth of online shopping factored into the decisions to close stores. In particular, many of the closures were stores located in shopping malls. Foot traffic at shopping malls across the U.S. continues to decline, causing companies like Bath & Body Works to reassess where its stores are located.
