Gulf of America, reinforcing the company's strategy to maximize value and longevity from its core deepwater assets. The project, which has reached final investment decision (FID), will inject water into the Kaikias reservoir to displace additional oil toward existing production wells tied back to Shell's Ursa tension leg platform in the Mars Corridor. First water injection is expected in 2028, with Shell anticipating that the initiative will extend the productive life of Ursa by several years. Waterflooding is a widely used secondary recovery technique designed to maintain reservoir pressure and improve oil recovery after primary production declines. At Kaikias, the approach is estimated to increase recoverable resources by around 60 million barrels of oil equivalent on a P50 basis, classified as 2P reserves under Society of Petroleum Engineers guidelines.
