Executive Vice President Stella Li said the Shenzhen-based company is reviewing the Canadian market for a facility that BYD would fully own and operate, signaling that a joint-venture structure may not fit its strategy. Canada has been encouraging investment from Chinese automakers and earlier agreed to exempt up to 49,000 Chinese-built electric vehicles per year from a 100% tariff introduced in 2024, part of a policy shift that could open a limited pathway for Chinese EVs.
