In 1991, Wegmans Food Markets launched its Food You Feel Good About category of products that contain no unnecessary artificial colors, flavors or preservatives and are free of high-fructose corn syrup, artificial sweeteners and trans fats from partially hydrogenated oils. More than 90% of Wegmans items – thousands of products – now fall into the Food You Feel Good About category (or Wegmans' organic line), which can be found across store departments, from baked goods and dairy, to meat and produce, to frozen and prepared foods. We asked Wegmans which of those items sell the best. While the chain is renowned for its prepared foods, the only one to make the Top 20 was a humble pizza slice. Bananas, however, are big. So are eggs and avocados and other relatively inexpensive items. In fact, none of the shoppers' go-to items exceed $4.99.
