In the first half of the 20th century the world was cut off from Paris fashion twice, once for each of the global conflicts. Wars that had the unintended consequence of proving that international concerns could independently produce clothing without working from the newest Paris designs for inspiration. Part of the reason that France's haute couture industry rebounded so quickly, and the reason fashion in Paris greatly assisted France in its economic recovery from WWII, is related to the centuries of investment by French leadership into apparel design and production industries.
