The sheriff's office plans, laid out in a request for qualifications (RFQ) published March 23 , call for the demolition of two jails at 5113 Harding Place: the 768-bed Correctional Development Center – Male, and the defunct Metro Detention Facility, which once held 1,200 people. An 1,867-bed facility spread over 500,8006 square feet would take its place at the same location. The maximum guaranteed price target for the project is $410 million, the RFQ shows. Paying for the plan will depend on future approval from the Metro Nashville Council. Initial funding of $14 million was approved in the fall 2026 capital spending plan to get started with planning and design, but "future funding requests are expected and necessary to complete the project," according to Velvet Hunter, assistant director of Metro General Services' administration division.
