American Airlines on Thursday reported record first-quarter revenue of $13.9 billion, but posted a net loss as a surge in energy costs and disruptions from a winter storm took its toll on the bottom line — and warned soaring jet fuel could eat into its full-year outlook. The Fort Worth-based carrier posted a Q1 GAAP loss of $382 million, or 58 cents per diluted share. Excluding items, American saw a narrower loss of $267 million, or 40 cents per diluted share, but said it ended the quarter with its lowest total debt in over a decade. American, which operates its central hub at D-FW International Airport, noted that extreme winter weather had cost it $320 million due to operational challenges. The airline forecasted its second-quarter adjusted earnings per share to be between 20 cent loss and 20 cent profit, but warned its full-year guidance could be "approximately flat" this year relative to 2025 amid a $4 billion spike in expenses related to higher jet fuel prices.
