German flag carrier Lufthansa is looking to expand its international flight capacity with an investment in Munich Airport. Chief executive Carsten Spohr is set to reveal details on Monday of the airline's plans at a ceremony marking Lufthansa's centenary. Sources suggest Germany's largest airline is planning to expand Terminal 2 in Munich. Plans for an extension of capacity to handle up to 10 million additional passengers per year were drawn up last decade but shelved due to the coronavirus pandemic. Munich is Lufthansa's second hub for international air traffic after Frankfurt. Unlike in Frankfurt, Lufthansa is a co-operator of Munich's second terminal, giving the company greater scope to shape planning and operations according to its own vision. Lufthansa's subsidiary and partner airlines also land and take off from Terminal 2 in Munich. However, Munich Airport still lacks a long-distance rail station, and it only has two runways.
