In the fastest-growing legal drama in the auto world right now a couple of Ford dealerships in New York have taken the Blue Oval to court, claiming the iconic American automaker stiffed them on money owed for electric-vehicle battery work. The complaint, filed late this week, accuses Ford Motor Company of underpaying dealers by hundreds of thousands of dollars when they replaced EV batteries under warranty. Here's the backstory. Under New York law, when a dealership performs warranty work for a manufacturer that includes replacing pricey parts like EV batteries, the automaker is supposed to cover the cost in a way that reflects what the dealer would normally charge a regular customer. That generally means reimbursing the cost of the part plus a markup that covers labor and overhead. But the two dealers say Ford has been doing something very different.
