Anthro Energy, a battery material manufacturer, will break ground on a new production plant in Louisville in June, company leaders said — bringing a first-of-its-kind, $42 million energy investment to Kentucky even as the state's broader battery industry has faced headwinds. The California-based company will build its new manufacturing site in an existing structure at 5600 Cane Run Road, in a logistics and industrial corridor in southwest Jefferson County. Production is set to begin in early 2028, and initial hiring could begin later this year, eventually scaling up to about 110 permanent jobs. The new plant will produce Anthro's proprietary electrolyte, a key ingredient in batteries for electric vehicles, grid storage, cell phones and everything in between. The advanced electrolyte manufactured in Louisville will help make "batteries that are safer, lighter, longer lasting and much more durable for a wide range of applications," CEO and cofounder David Mackanic said in an interv
