technology and a rapidly expanding battery-storage business as the automaker adjusts to shifting consumer demand and market pressures. The company said the updated plan will emphasize a broader mix of gas, hybrid and low-cost electric models, including a Universal EV Platform designed to underpin a new family of smaller, more affordable electric vehicles. Ford expects hybrids, extended-range EVs and fully electric models to make up about half of its global volume by 2030, up from 17% today. The updated strategy also comes with significant financial consequences. Ford expects to record roughly $19.5 billion in special items over the next several years, largely tied to adjustments within its electric-vehicle portfolio. Cash impacts are expected to total about $5.5 billion through 2027. The company now anticipates Ford Model e, its EV arm, will reach profitability in 2029, with improvements beginning in 2026.
